Brockton Brothers Each Get Four Months for Staged Credit Union Robbery, Ordered to Repay $197,146

BOSTON, in Suffolk County, Massachusetts — The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Massachusetts announced on October 19 that two Brockton men were sentenced that day in federal court in Boston for staging the September 24, 2024 robbery of Energy Credit Union in West Roxbury, stealing $197,146 from the credit union where one of the brothers worked as a teller.
Jenel Flounoury, 30, and his brother Justin Flounoury, 34, were each sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Allison D. Burroughs to four months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release. Both were also ordered to pay joint restitution of $197,146. The brothers were arrested by state authorities on the night following the robbery, were indicted by a federal grand jury in January 2025, and each pleaded guilty in July 2026 to one count of conspiracy to commit larceny from a credit union.
According to prosecutors, on the day of the robbery Justin Flounoury left his job in South Boston early and was driven to the credit union, with cellphone location records documenting his travel and presence. Wearing a hat, dark clothing, sunglasses and a mask, Justin approached the teller window where Jenel was working and handed his brother a note that read, "Hand it Over." Rather than hand over the limited cash in his teller drawer, Jenel entered the vault, collected nearly $200,000 in cash, filled a bag taken from inside the vault and handed it to Justin, who fled and returned to the residence the brothers shared, as corroborated by cellphone records.
The brothers were later observed burning dark-colored clothing consistent with the clothing worn during the robbery in a grill at their residence. A search of the home recovered more than $160,000 in cash, including ten $100 bills whose serial numbers matched those recorded by Energy Credit Union employees before the robbery.
U.S. Attorney Leah B. Foley; Ted E. Docks, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation; Massachusetts State Police Colonel Geoffrey Noble; and Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox announced the sentences, with valuable assistance from the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Mark Grady and John Potapchuk prosecuted the case.
