Monday, October 19, 2026 · City · GSM News

Pittsburgh is a city in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania is backing a new Loews hotel to be built beside the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in downtown Pittsburgh. A letter of intent announced by the state on Oct. 13 describes the $418 million project as a key piece of downtown Pittsburgh's 10-year revitalization strategy.

The hotel, planned for a parcel west of the convention center, will have 500 rooms and several restaurants and connect directly to the convention center, helping Pittsburgh compete for major conventions, trade shows and sporting events. Loews Hotels is expected to invest about $135 million, with the rest from the state, Allegheny County and a private consortium. The state has committed $30 million for site preparation and infrastructure and will fast-track approvals through the PA Permit Fast Track Program. County Executive Sara Innamorato and Lt. Gov. Austin Davis joined the announcement. Officials project 1,200 union construction jobs and 400 permanent jobs, with the county's contribution the largest local share.
