Netflix Film Chief Dan Lin Out, the Second Senior Departure in Less Than a Week
LOS ANGELES — Netflix said on October 19 that its film division head Dan Lin will leave the company, the second senior executive departure in less than a week, according to Reuters. Chief content officer Bela Bajaria left last week after nearly a decade at the streaming platform and was replaced by former Disney and Fox executive Peter Rice, who will oversee the film division until a successor is announced. Lin, a producer of 'Sherlock Holmes' and the Lego movies who previously held a senior role at Warner Bros. Pictures, joined Netflix in April 2024, succeeding Scott Stuber with a mandate to bring greater cost discipline to its film slate. His tenure included the Oscar-winning breakout 'KPop Demon Hunters,' 'Happy Gilmore 2' and 'Frankenstein.' Netflix is also cutting about 6 percent of its workforce, roughly 1,000 jobs. Co-CEO Ted Sarandos recently said the company is 'not growing as fast as I want us to,' as engagement faces competition from creator-led platforms such as YouTube. Netflix is scheduled to report third-quarter results after markets close on Tuesday.
