Secretary Mullin Tours CBP Cargo Facility at Phoenix Sky Harbor, Where China-Made Jerseys Were Passed Off as Mexican, and Oversees Deportation Flights to Mexico

PHOENIX — Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin on Friday toured the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) cargo inspection facility at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in Arizona, together with CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott, the Department of Homeland Security said. Foreign shipments at the facility are inspected for illegal drugs, national-security threats and fraudulently labeled goods. During the visit, CBP officers showed a shipment of baseball jerseys that had been flagged: the goods were claimed to be made in Mexico and shipped from Mexico, but were actually made in China. Mullin said officers need to look at almost every package coming into the country and praised their experience in recognizing shipper patterns used by traffickers and cartels to evade duties and customs rules. The same day, Mullin oversaw several deportation flights out of Phoenix, Arizona, that removed illegal aliens to Mexico. According to DHS, those deported included pedophiles, violent assailants, drug traffickers, drunk drivers, burglars and gang members, and all of those on the flights were from Mexico. Mullin said the flights carried out the mass deportations voters demanded and that, under President Trump's leadership, dangerous illegal aliens are being removed from American communities every day. Among those deported, DHS said, was Jaime Velasquez Orozco, whose California criminal history includes convictions for lewd acts with a child under 14, assault with intent to rape, and first-degree burglary; an immigration judge issued him a final order of removal on October 6, 2026.
