WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche and U.S. Senator Dave McCormick convened federal, state and local law enforcement leaders at the Luzerne County Courthouse in Wilkes-Barre on October 19 for a roundtable on progress combating the fentanyl crisis in Northeastern Pennsylvania and across the Commonwealth, followed by a press conference, the Justice Department said. Blanche said lethal fentanyl doses seized have fallen 59 percent since President Trump took office, while reported overdose deaths in Pennsylvania declined nearly 20 percent in one year; McCormick said fentanyl deaths in Pennsylvania are down about 60 percent. Blanche credited cooperation among law enforcement agencies and border-security efforts. The department pointed to recent enforcement results in Pennsylvania, including indictments against four alleged members of a Philadelphia-area drug ring accused of selling about 1,600 bags of fentanyl a day. Disrupting fentanyl trafficking networks and synthetic opioid supply chains remains a department priority, the DOJ said.
