Sunday Golf: Chacarra Wins India Championship to Top the Race to Dubai; Singh, 63, Becomes Second-Oldest Winner on PGA Tour Champions at SAS Championship

New Delhi / Cary, N.C. — Two golf tournaments wrapped up on Sunday, the Associated Press reported on October 18: Spain's Eugenio Chacarra won the DP World India Championship to move atop the Race to Dubai standings, and 63-year-old Vijay Singh of Fiji won the SAS Championship to become the second-oldest winner in PGA Tour Champions history.
At Delhi Golf Club, Chacarra completed a weather-delayed third round early Sunday by holing an eagle at the 18th for a 9-under 63, then closed with a 70 to finish at 21-under 267 and win by two strokes. New Zealand's Daniel Hillier was second at 19 under, with Adrian Meronk and Angel Hidalgo tied for third at 15 under. It was the third win of 2026 for the 26-year-old Chacarra, after victories at the KLM Open and the Italian Open in June, and it followed a third place at the French Open and a runner-up finish at last week's Spanish Open. The win lifted him past Patrick Reed into first place in the Race to Dubai. Reed shot 69 to tie for 23rd at 8 under, and Rory McIlroy closed with a 74 to tie for 42nd at 4 under. European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald greeted Chacarra behind the 18th green. "Two of the best players in the world are coming for me now," Chacarra said, "and I know they are not going to make it easy."
At the SAS Championship in Cary, North Carolina, Singh shot 69 in all three rounds to finish at 9- under 207. He made four birdies in a six-hole stretch around the turn in the final round and closed with six straight pars to win by two over Ernie Els, who also shot 69; Alex Cejka and Tag Ridings tied for third at 6 under. It was Singh's sixth PGA Tour Champions title and his first in just over three years, and he had not posted a top-10 finish all year before Sunday. The AP noted that Bernhard Langer is the only player older than Singh to win on the 50-and-over circuit — Langer
won at age 67. "This was a big one," Singh said. "It's been a tough year, all year, and then I didn't know how I was going to play this morning. My back doesn't do very well in cold. I didn't hit my irons as good as I wanted to, but I got the job done." The victory moved Singh from 57th to 33rd in the Charles Schwab Cup points standings. (GSM, from Associated Press reports)
