Trump Says U.S. and Mexico Are Very Close to a Trade Deal at Kansas Rally

Monday, October 19, 2026 · White House · GSM News

PARK CITY, Kansas — President Donald Trump told a rally at the Heartland Credit Union Arena in Park City, in Sedgwick County, Kansas, on Monday evening, October 19, that Mexico and the United States are very close to agreeing to a “great” trade deal. Trump appeared at the rally in support of Republican incumbent Senator Roger Marshall.

According to Reuters, the Kansas stop was the latest in a series of forays into conservative states where Republican candidates are on the defensive amid voter frustration over the Iran war and rising prices. Marshall's Senate seat has long been held by Republicans but faces a Democratic challenge. “I love you Kansas, but I'm here for a guy named Roger Marshall,” Trump said.

In his speech, Trump pointed to the recent unrest in France as a warning to voters, saying the mass protests there had descended into riots and looting and that a similar scenario could erupt in the United States if Democrats win. “We're not going to let that happen to this country,” he said. “When you see burning steeples and raging fires in France, just remember that is what the radical Dumocrats want to do to America.” Reuters noted that Trump provided no evidence for the claim, and that rights advocates have repeatedly criticized his rhetoric targeting immigrants and ethnic minority groups, saying it normalizes discriminatory attitudes.

On the trade deal, Trump gave no details at the rally about the text, tariff rates or a signing timetable, and the White House has not yet released formal documents on such an agreement. (GSM, reporting from Reuters)
