Monday, October 19, 2026 · Health · GSM News

Harrisburg — The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported on October 19 that measles cases in the state had risen to 1,286, up 26 from the last update on Friday, as the outbreak of the highly contagious disease continues.

State health department data show 247 measles-related hospitalizations in Pennsylvania this year, and the state has reported five measles-related deaths so far. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed two measles-associated deaths in the United States in 2026, though it has not identified the states involved.

Nationwide, the United States has recorded 4,410 measles cases this year as of October 15, according to CDC data. The CDC said last week it would deploy additional support to Pennsylvania to help investigate the outbreak. (GSM, via Reuters)
