World Central Kitchen Responds to Typhoon Champi in Guam: Third Typhoon Response in the Region This Year

World Central Kitchen (WCK), the nonprofit disaster-relief organization, announced on its website on October 17 that its teams are responding to Typhoon Champi in Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands. As the storm approached, it was expected to make landfall in the area as a Category 4 typhoon, with the possibility of strengthening into a super typhoon, bringing extremely damaging winds and the potential for severe flooding.
WCK said this is its third typhoon response in the region in 2026, following Super Typhoons Sinlaku and Bavi earlier this year, over the course of which it has built a network of local partners ready to serve their communities. It is also WCK's fourth cyclone response this month: its teams just concluded work in Baja California, Mexico, after Hurricane Rachel, recently wound down their response in Jalisco after Hurricane Simon, and are still supporting families impacted by Hurricane Isaias in Alabama and Florida in the southeastern United States.
Typhoon Champi later brushed past the southern tip of Guam, and damage assessments are under way; President Trump had approved an emergency declaration for Guam, with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) coordinating federal assistance. WCK's model is to be first on the frontlines, serving fresh meals through local partners, food trucks and emergency kitchens. The organization was founded in 2010 by Chef José Andrés and is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. (GSM, based on the announcement on World Central Kitchen's official website)
