COLUMBUS, Ohio — Governor Mike DeWine has celebrated the completion of Appalachian Community Grant Program projects in Ashtabula and Sardis, including an October 19 ribbon cutting for the Sardis riverfront amphitheater. According to the Governor's Office, Ashtabula received a $1.9 million award through the program's Wonderful Waterfronts initiative to remake its downtown, with new sidewalks, lighting and signage, and facade improvements to 22 buildings. The Sardis riverfront project built an amphitheater designed to resemble a steamboat paddle wheel, along with scenic trails, with an award of about $4.47 million. Launched in 2024, the Wonderful Waterfronts initiative awarded $204 million to 12 Ohio counties to expand access to waterways, boost tourism and revitalize downtown riverfront areas. The Appalachian Community Grant Program, created by the DeWine administration and the Ohio General Assembly, totals $500 million for transformational investments across Ohio's 32 Appalachian counties.
