Thompson Cancels Final Home Game as Opponent Deals With Hurricane Isaias Aftermath

Thompson High School in Alabaster, Shelby County, Alabama, announced on October 19 that it has canceled its final home game of the season, scheduled for October 29 against Choctawhatchee High School of Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
In a statement posted on social media, the school said Choctawhatchee continues to deal with lingering effects from Hurricane Isaias, including ongoing schedule challenges resulting from the storm. Despite efforts to explore alternative arrangements, the school said multiple circumstances made it impossible to play the game as scheduled or to find a new opponent. A Choctawhatchee football post on October 15 said completing the district schedule while prioritizing the safety of student athletes must come first.
Thompson is 7-1 this season and was formerly ranked No. 10 nationally. The Warriors dropped out of the national Super 25 this week after a 28-27 loss to Prattville. With the cancellation, Thompson's October 23 game against Oak Mountain becomes its final regular-season game.
Hurricane Isaias struck the southeastern United States in early October, and the Florida Panhandle area around Choctawhatchee dealt with school closures, damage and disrupted athletic schedules. (GSM, via USA Today)
