Falcons Sign Veteran Quarterback Andy Dalton, Release Cooper Rush

The Atlanta Falcons, based in Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia, signed veteran free-agent quarterback Andy Dalton on October 19 and released fellow quarterback Cooper Rush. Dalton turns 39 on October 29.
Dalton was released by the Philadelphia Eagles on October 9 after throwing an interception on his only pass attempt of the season. A second-round pick in 2011, he spent his first nine seasons and made three Pro Bowls with the Cincinnati Bengals, and has since played for the Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers and Eagles. Across 180 career games he has thrown for 39,793 yards with 254 touchdowns and 152 interceptions, compiling an 84-83-2 record as a starter. Falcons head coach Kevin Stefanski credited general manager Ian Cunningham with the move, saying the team is always looking at ways to add to the roster and Dalton was available.
Rush started the Falcons' first two games this season as Michael Penix Jr. completed his recovery from ACL surgery, losing to the Panthers and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Rush completed 22 of 39 passes for 229 yards with one touchdown and four interceptions. Atlanta is 2-4 and also has quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and undrafted rookie Jack Strand on the roster.
