The University of Kansas men's basketball program in Lawrence, Douglas County, Kansas, announced on October 19 that Purdue forward Trey Kaufman-Renn has joined the team. The school said Kaufman-Renn has enrolled in classes and began practicing with the Jayhawks on Sunday.

The 24-year-old, 6-foot-9 forward played four seasons at Purdue and was selected 59th overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the June NBA draft. He is currently eligible for a sixth season of college basketball under a court order while his case remains pending. He fills the roster spot of freshman Grant Mordini, who suffered a season-ending patellar tendon injury, and is the third late addition to the Kansas roster this season to gain eligibility through a court ruling.

Kaufman-Renn averaged 14.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game for Purdue last season, after averaging 20.1 points per game in 2024-25. He helped Purdue reach the national championship game, the Elite Eight and the Sweet 16. Head coach Bill Self said in a statement that Kaufman-Renn has been extremely well-drilled and well-coached, and that because of his basketball IQ, his transition should be quicker than most.
