Montana Land Board Approves Over $927,000 in New Revenue for Public Schools

The Montana Land Board approved more than $927,000 in new revenue for the state's public schools at its October meeting in Helena, the seat of Lewis and Clark County, Montana. State Auditor James Brown joined his Land Board colleagues in approving the revenue.
According to the board, the estimated $927,166 includes $391,803 from timber sales and $535,363 from easements. The Land Board, made up of Montana's five top statewide elected officials, is constitutionally entrusted with managing millions of acres of state trust land, whose revenue supports Montana educational institutions and other trust beneficiaries.
'Serving on the Land Board is one of my most important jobs as State Auditor. I'm always proud to secure more revenue for Montana students through responsible management of our trust land,' Brown said in a statement. The board said it seeks to deliver financial returns for trust beneficiaries while stewarding the land for future generations.
