In Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio, the Columbus Regional Airport Authority announced on October 19 that Lufthansa will launch nonstop service between John Glenn Columbus International Airport and Frankfurt, Germany, in May 2027, operating three times a week. It will be central Ohio's first nonstop flight to Europe and the only nonstop flight to Germany from Ohio.

The route begins May 5, 2027, on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, departing Columbus at 4:20 p.m. and arriving in Frankfurt at 6:15 a.m. the next morning. Lufthansa will fly a Boeing 787 Dreamliner with 287 seats — 28 lie-flat business class, 28 premium economy and 231 economy. Frankfurt, Lufthansa's largest hub, offers onward connections to 130 destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India.

Daren Griffin, the airport authority's president and CEO, said a nonstop to Europe has been the airport's top priority and that Columbus's growth and the businesses locating there made the route possible. The service is part of JobsOhio's Air Service Restoration program, under which JobsOhio and local partners provide revenue guarantees for new routes. Dirk Janzen, Lufthansa's vice president of passenger sales in the Americas, said the route means a great deal to the community, businesses and families.
