Avangrid Breaks Ground on National Training Center Expansion in Sherman County, Oregon

Monday, October 19, 2026 · States · GSM News

Energy company Avangrid announced on October 19 that it has broken ground on an expansion of its National Training Center (NTC) in Sherman County, Oregon, near Moro and close to many of the company's operating energy projects in the state.

The project will increase the facility's footprint by about 2,500 square feet and enclose its 30-foot-tall fall protection tower, allowing technicians to train year-round in any weather. "Nothing is more important than ensuring our employees have what they need to work safely," said Avangrid CEO Jose Antonio Miranda, adding that the upgrade is an investment in employees' health and safety and in building the skilled workforce needed to operate a growing generation fleet and meet rising electricity demand.

The NTC was built in the summer of 2024 and welcomed its first cohort of technicians that fall. Since opening, approximately 350 new and existing Avangrid technicians have attended safety and technical training courses there. Avangrid is a member of the Iberdrola Group.
