Senator Mike Rounds' Sioux Falls Office Evacuated Over Suspicious Letter, Reopens October 19

In Sioux Falls, Minnehaha County, South Dakota, the local office of U.S. Senator Mike Rounds received a letter believed to contain a suspicious substance on October 16, prompting an evacuation and the office's closure for the rest of that day. The office reopened for normal hours on Monday, October 19.
In a statement, Rounds said his team followed protocols advised by the U.S. Capitol Police and contacted the Sioux Falls Police Department, which responded immediately to investigate and evacuate the office. He said Capitol Police had intercepted other similar letters and issued a warning that allowed his team to recognize the letter before opening it.
Similar suspicious letters have been reported at congressional and election offices across the country in recent days, with many intercepted before delivery. Officials have not released details about the contents of the letter sent to the Sioux Falls office or the investigation.
Rounds said the Sioux Falls office remained closed for the remainder of October 16 while police investigated.
