Manassas Cancels November First Friday After 16-Year-Old Bystander Was Killed at September Event

Monday, October 19, 2026 · States · GSM News

The City of Manassas, Virginia, in the Prince William County area, has canceled its First Friday celebration scheduled for November, the final event of the 2026 season. Northern Virginia Magazine reported on October 19 that the October First Friday was also canceled, following the shooting death of a 16-year-old girl at the September 4 event.

Manassas city police say the Patriot High School student was an uninvolved bystander in the shooting. Three men have been arrested and charged in the case. After the shooting, the city sought public input on upcoming events, including at a September 21 city council work session.

Based on community feedback, the City of Manassas and Historic Manassas, Inc. announced they had canceled the final First Friday event of 2026 to focus on upcoming fall and winter festivities, and said community feedback remains important as planning continues for 2027. Upcoming programming includes a Halloween trick-or-treating event on October 24, a Veterans Day parade on November 7 and a fall gallery walk on November 14. The monthly festivals are held February through November in Old Town Manassas.
