CDC Coordinating 30 Active Multistate Foodborne Outbreak Investigations

ATLANTA — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is currently coordinating 30 active investigations of multistate foodborne outbreaks, according to its Current Outbreaks page, last updated October 14, 2026: 2 for Campylobacter, 7 for E. coli, 6 for Listeria, and 15 for Salmonella. The CDC says it typically coordinates between 17 and 40 investigations of foodborne illnesses involving multiple states each week, and that not all investigations result in an online outbreak notice.
The CDC works closely with its federal regulatory partners — the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) — and with state and local public health partners, using the PulseNet laboratory network to identify additional ill persons.
