Singapore PM Lawrence Wong Makes First Middle East Visits as PM: Qatar October 18–20, UAE October 20–22
Prime Minister Lawrence Wong is making official visits to Qatar from October 18 to 20 and to the United Arab Emirates from October 20 to 22, Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. These are his first visits to the Middle East as Prime Minister, at the invitation of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, and the President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The visits provide an opportunity for Singapore to exchange views with regional leaders on developments in the Middle East, reaffirm support for dialogue and diplomacy, and strengthen cooperation with Qatar and the UAE in areas of mutual interest, particularly energy security and economic resilience, the ministry said.
In Qatar, Wong will call on Sheikh Tamim and co-chair the ninth Qatar-Singapore High-Level Joint Committee with Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Bin Jassim Al Thani. In the UAE, he will visit Abu Dhabi and Dubai, call on Sheikh Mohamed, and meet Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Khaled Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Dubai's Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance and Deputy Ruler Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. He will also meet overseas Singaporeans at receptions in Doha and Dubai.
