Indiana Rolls Out Housing Transition Plan for August Storm Survivors; FEMA Application Deadline Is October 25

Indiana Governor Mike Braun announced on October 13 that the state is implementing a shelter-transition and housing strategy for residents displaced by the August storms, led by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) to move survivors from the state hotel voucher program into longer-term housing.
Case managers from Tidal Basin will reach out directly to eligible survivors to connect them with housing resources. The state also reminded residents that FEMA Rental Assistance can last up to 18 months, and that the deadline to apply for FEMA Individual Assistance is October 25.
Braun said the state's task is ensuring displaced families have stable housing during recovery, and that agencies will continue coordinating with local and federal partners. The August storms displaced residents across parts of Indiana, with some families still living in hotels and other temporary arrangements.
