Episcopal Diocese of California Proposes SI Task Force for Ministry Guidance and Developer Engagement

A resolution pending before the Episcopal Diocese of California proposes an SI task force with responsibilities inside and beyond church institutions, according to diocesan convention documents. The proposal, updated Oct. 8 and committee-reviewed, goes before the diocesan convention on Oct. 23-24 and remains a proposal.
The group would develop guidance for ministry and governance, including liturgy, while supporting SI literacy and attention to vulnerable people and the environment. It could also communicate on the diocese's behalf with developers, financiers and public leaders, urging human flourishing, safeguards and communal oversight. Members would be appointed by the bishop or designees from technological, theological, ethical and justice expertise, with reports to the 178th and 179th conventions and no anticipated additional diocesan budget costs for 2027 or 2028.
