CDC Updates Frozen Blueberry E. coli Page as FDA Recall Expands to Walmart and Trader Joe's Products

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated its closed frozen blueberry E. coli O145 outbreak page on Oct. 5 to note that additional recalls occurred after the investigation closed. An FDA recall posted Oct. 2 adds six lots of three products from Chilean grower Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. - Great Value Organic Blueberries and Triple Berry Blend sold at Walmart in 30 states, and Trader Joe's Organic Mixed Berry Blend in 26 states - with best-by dates running to June 2028.
CDC declared the outbreak over on Sept. 21. Seventeen people were sickened between May 11 and Aug. 2, 2026 - 13 in Florida and four in Georgia - with six hospitalized and no deaths; 11 of 13 people interviewed remembered eating frozen blueberries. The grower is on an import alert. Because frozen berries keep for years, recalled bags may still be in home freezers; consumers should check products and dates against the FDA recall page and not eat the recalled berries.
