'Hocus Pocus' Cast Reunites in Hartford; Director Says DiCaprio Was Eyed for Lead Role
The principal cast of the Halloween classic Hocus Pocus reunited on Oct. 18 at 90s Con, a 1990s pop-culture convention in Hartford, Connecticut.
Director Kenny Ortega said he had not reunited with the cast in more than 20 years, and shared a casting story: Leonardo DiCaprio was once considered for the lead role of Max Dennison, the teenager who accidentally resurrects three witches. The part went to Omri Katz, who, Ortega said, 'gave an amazing performance.' Katz joked that he and DiCaprio often competed at auditions and called it 'my one-in-a-thousand win.' Jason Marsden, Vinessa Shaw and Thora Birch also attended, recalling working with Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy — the Sanderson sisters. (GSM, via USA Today)
