Google Eyes Data Center in Roanoke County; Due Diligence Runs Through March 2027

Monday, October 19, 2026 · States · GSM News

Google plans to build a new data center in Roanoke County, Virginia. The Western Virginia Regional Industrial Facility Authority (WVRIFA) confirmed on Oct. 16 that it is in talks with Google over a land sale.

'WVRIFA has agreed to a letter of intent with Google, which will conduct due diligence at the Wood Haven Technology Park through March 2027 to evaluate the possibility of building a data center there,' WVRIFA chair Jill Loope said in a statement. A company called Clearview Dynamics LLC has already purchased a parcel in the park for about $1.5 million that could serve as the data center site, WVTF reported. Google has not announced an investment figure or construction timeline. The Roanoke area's relatively inexpensive land, power and cool climate have drawn several cloud and data center operators in recent years. (GSM, via WVTF)
