Trump Restates in Post: DEI Abolished Across the Federal Government, CRT Out of Schools, English Made the Official Language

WASHINGTON — President Donald J. Trump posted on Truth Social on October 19 restating a set of his administration's policies: abolishing all "Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion" (DEI) policies throughout the federal government, getting Critical Race Theory and transgender-related content out of schools, and making English the official language of the United States.

The post read: "We abolished all discriminatory 'Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion' policies throughout the Federal Government. We got Critical Race Theory and Transgender insanity out of our Schools, and we made ENGLISH the Official Language of the United States! President DONALD J. TRUMP." It was one of a series of posts he issued that day while campaigning for the midterm elections in Kansas and elsewhere.

The claims correspond to a set of executive orders signed at the start of his term. On January 20, 2025, his first day in office, Trump signed Executive Order 14151, "Ending Radical and Wasteful Government DEI Programs and Preferencing," directing federal agencies to terminate DEI and "diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility" (DEIA) mandates, policies, programs, positions and preferences. On January 21, Executive Order 14173, "Ending Illegal Discrimination and Restoring Merit-Based Opportunity," revoked the 1965 Executive Order 11246, which had required affirmative action by federal contractors, and required contractors to certify in their contracts that they do not operate DEI programs violating federal anti-discrimination law. For schools, Executive Order 14190, "Ending Radical Indoctrination in K-12 Schooling," signed January 29, directed agencies to identify and cut federal funding for curricula, teacher training and programs promoting Critical Race Theory and gender ideology. On March 1, 2025, Executive Order 14224 designated English as the official language of the United States and revoked the Clinton-era Executive Order 13166, which had required agencies to provide language assistance to people with limited English proficiency.

The orders have since moved into implementation and drawn multiple lawsuits; a federal judge recently declined to block enforcement of the federal-contractor provisions of Executive Order 14173.
