Dubai — The 28th edition of the Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) opened on October 20 at the Dubai World Trade Centre and runs for three days through October 22. Organized by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), this year's exhibition draws 3,000 companies from 60 countries, features 13 international pavilions, and is backed by 60 sponsoring institutions and companies and 23 partners and supporters, making it one of the Middle East's largest sustainability industry events.

Water security is the exhibition's central theme. Organizers note that climate change, urban growth and rising demand are reshaping the global water equation, and that water security now depends not only on increasing supply but also on diversifying sources, recovering and reusing water, reducing network losses and operating systems efficiently. The World Bank has warned that under current water management policies and projected climate scenarios, urban water availability could decline by up to two-thirds by 2050 compared with 2015 levels.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, said enhancing water security requires an integrated approach that diversifies water sources, improves use efficiency, invests in technologies that reduce the energy required for desalination, minimizes losses, expands water reuse and strengthens network resilience, adding that WETEX provides a global platform for technology providers, utilities, investors and decision-makers to connect innovation with investment and implementation.

Exhibitors are showcasing the latest solutions in water production, desalination, wastewater treatment and reuse, smart networks, leak detection and resource management. Dubai Municipality is also presenting its sustainable infrastructure, waste management and construction innovation projects at the show, including a villa built using robotic construction systems and an SI-powered health and safety monitoring system.
