College Board BigFuture Scholarships: Monthly $500 and $40,000 Drawings as Class of 2027 Deadlines Near

Tuesday, October 20, 2026 · Education · GSM News

The College Board's BigFuture Scholarships are open to high school students in the classes of 2027, 2028 and 2029. Students who complete college-planning steps on the BigFuture platform are automatically entered into monthly drawings for $500 and $40,000 scholarships, held on the first day of each month, with no essay required.

Qualifying steps include starting a college list, strengthening the college list, starting a career list, starting a scholarship list, applying to colleges, and completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Each completed step earns an entry, and unselected entries roll over into the next month's drawing. Students whose families earn less than $60,000 a year earn double entries per step, and half of all awards are reserved for students meeting that income criterion.

For seniors in the class of 2027, several deadlines are close: the Strengthen Your College List step is due October 31, while the career list, scholarship list, application and FAFSA steps are due November 30, with that class's monthly drawings running through December 2026. The first monthly drawings for the class of 2029 begin November 1, 2026.

Eligible students must have a College Board account and attend a public or private high school, or be homeschooled, in the United States, Puerto Rico or other U.S. territories; U.S. citizens and residents attending Department of War Education Activity (DoWEA) schools are also eligible. Full step requirements and official rules are on the BigFuture website. (GSM, based on College Board BigFuture materials)
