Grand Canyon Seeks Public Input on North Rim Rebuilding: Open House Tonight in Flagstaff

Tuesday, October 20, 2026 · Culture & Travel · GSM News

The National Park Service (NPS) is seeking public input on rebuilding the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park, with a 30-day public engagement period running from October 6 to November 6. The park is holding a series of open houses in gateway communities this week: October 19 in Kanab, Utah; tonight, October 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Coconino Community College in Flagstaff, Arizona; and October 21 in Tusayan. A virtual meeting was held on October 13, and comments can also be submitted through the park planning website, parkplanning.nps.gov.

The rebuilding follows the 2025 Dragon Bravo Fire, which burned from July 4 to September 29, 2025, across 149,399 acres and destroyed the Grand Canyon Lodge and more than 100 historic structures and employee housing units on the North Rim; the area was later hit by flash flooding. The park has released three preliminary rebuilding concepts, ranging from restoring the facilities to modern standards to expanding the North Rim into a four-season destination.

According to the park's engagement notice, public comments will help determine which concepts move forward and what the priorities should be. Both the North and South Rims are currently open, while some inner-canyon areas remain closed.
