Inaugural U.S.-Pacific Islands Conference of Police Ministers Set for October 21-22 in Los Angeles: Focus on Maritime Security and Drug Trafficking

Tuesday, October 20, 2026 · Federal · GSM News

The U.S. Department of State announced that the inaugural U.S.-Pacific Islands Conference of Police Ministers (COPMIN) will be held on October 21-22 in Los Angeles, co-chaired by the United States and Palau and bringing together minister-level officials responsible for policing and law enforcement from Pacific Island countries.

According to the State Department, the conference will focus on maritime security, drug trafficking, cybercrime and illicit finance. It is one of a series of measures the United States announced during this year's Pacific Islands Forum leaders' meeting to deepen engagement with Pacific Island countries; the same package included a $17 million Pacific regional project against illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing and a planned $60 million to help Pacific countries respond to the global energy crisis.
