Ground Broken on Nearly $4 Billion East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Line in Los Angeles

Los Angeles — In Los Angeles, a city in Los Angeles County, California, a groundbreaking ceremony was held on October 19 for the East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Project. Mayor Karen Bass, who chairs the Metro Board, attended and announced the start of construction.
According to the mayor's office, the 6.7-mile line will run along Van Nuys Boulevard with 11 stations serving Van Nuys, Panorama City, Arleta and Pacoima, at a total investment of nearly $4 billion. It will be the first local-stop rail line on Van Nuys Boulevard in more than 70 years.
The line will connect with Metrolink, Amtrak and the Metro G Line bus rapid transit. About 19 percent of area residents rely on public transit, and the project is expected to create 18,000 jobs.
