Connecticut Lottery 'Lady Luck' Scanning Error Flagged Winners as Invalid: Players Urged to Keep Tickets and Recheck

Tuesday, October 20, 2026 · States · GSM News

The Connecticut Lottery has advised players who bought "Lady Luck" scratch-off tickets not to throw them away: a system error affecting tickets scanned since October 16 may have caused winning tickets to be misread.

In its statement, the lottery said affected tickets scanned at retail locations displayed a "see retailer" message, while retailers saw an "invalid barcode" message, because an internal processing error prevented the system from validating the tickets. Players could begin rechecking their tickets at 5 a.m. on Tuesday, October 20. The lottery said it was not aware of any player who had been denied a prize because of the issue, and listed (860) 713-2700 for questions.

October 16 was also the last day of sales for the $5 game, No. 1869, but winning tickets can be validated through April 15, 2027, including the top prizes. All four of the game's $50,000 top prizes have been claimed. As of October 20, 6 of the 16 prizes of $5,000, 19 of the 52 prizes of $1,000, and 20 of the 109 prizes of $500 remained unclaimed, and some of those may be on tickets affected by the scanning error. The lottery urged players to keep their tickets until they can be rechecked.
