Denzel Washington to Star in Christopher McQuarrie's Untitled Crime Thriller, Set for October 2027
Amazon MGM and United Artists have greenlit an untitled original crime thriller to be directed by Christopher McQuarrie and starring Denzel Washington, with a theatrical release planned for October 1, 2027, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Written by Scott Barkan and Gregg Zehentner, the film follows a former detective serving a life sentence who is diagnosed with terminal brain cancer and granted compassionate release with six months to live. He returns home to reconnect with his estranged daughter and the grandson he has never met, but his past life comes with him.
McQuarrie has directed multiple "Mission: Impossible" films; United Artists is now run by producer Scott Stuber. Production is reportedly set to begin in November in New Jersey, with the daughter's role still being cast. Washington is a two-time Academy Award winner.
