Baltimore County Woman Charged With Bank Fraud: Alleged False Statements in $2.5M PPP Loan Applications

The U.S. Department of Justice announced that Kara DiPietro of Baltimore County, Maryland, has been indicted on six counts of bank fraud. The indictment alleges she made false statements and inflated assets in Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan applications involving about $2.5 million.
The PPP was a federal pandemic-relief program administered by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), providing forgivable loans to help small businesses keep workers on payroll. Prosecutors allege DiPietro misrepresented business and personal asset information in her applications to obtain loans she was not entitled to receive.
An indictment is merely an allegation, and DiPietro is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court. The case is proceeding in federal court in Maryland.
