Tuesday, October 20, 2026 · Federal · GSM News

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced in Boston on October 20 that it is seeking proposals for approximately eight awards totaling $5.3 million in innovative restoration grant funding under its Southeast New England Program (SNEP), to support coastal watershed restoration priorities across southeast New England.

"Southeast New England's coastal communities are vital to the region's economy and way of life," said EPA Regional Administrator Mark Sanborn. "By investing in innovative, cost-effective restoration projects, EPA is helping to protect clean water, strengthen local economies, and ensure these important coastal resources can be enjoyed for generations to come."

The agency said clean water for all Americans is part of the first pillar of Administrator Zeldin's Powering the Great American Comeback initiative, and that the funding opportunity reflects its commitment to supporting continued innovation in southeast New England. EPA said SNEP's Innovative Restoration Grants will emphasize the development and application of innovative policies, science and technology to support restoration efforts in the region. The 2026 Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is available on grants.gov, and proposals must be submitted by December 11, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET.

According to the EPA, the Southeast New England Program addresses complex issues at an ecosystem level from Rhode Island to Massachusetts, engaging stakeholders across the region in addressing ecological needs through collaboration and shared resources.
