SEC Small Business Advisory Committee to Meet October 27: Agenda Covers IPO Modernization and a Decade of Regulation Crowdfunding

Tuesday, October 20, 2026 · Finance · GSM News

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission announced on October 14 that its Small Business Capital Formation Advisory Committee will meet on Tuesday, October 27, at 10 a.m. at SEC headquarters, 100 F Street, N.E., in Washington, D.C. The meeting is open to the public and will be webcast live on SEC.gov, and the discussion will inform the committee's policy recommendations to the Commission.

The morning session focuses on IPO modernization: how to encourage more growing companies to go public, covering the offering process, rules on communications around an IPO, and the limited analyst coverage that affects smaller public companies. The cost of going and staying public is a concern small-business owners have raised repeatedly in committee meetings.

The afternoon session turns to Regulation Crowdfunding. The year 2026 marks ten years since the framework took effect, allowing small businesses to raise modest sums from ordinary investors through registered platforms. The committee will review how the rules have worked in practice, the challenges issuers and platforms face, and possible policy improvements. Scheduled speakers include Brian Belley of the crowdfunding data firm KingsCrowd, Sherwood Neiss of Crowdfund Capital Advisors, and Nicholas Tommarello, founder and CEO of the platform Wefunder.

The advisory committee is a standing body whose members are drawn from small businesses, investors, and market professionals. It advises the Commission on capital raising, offering exemptions, and the regulation of smaller public companies. The full agenda and speaker list are posted on the SEC's website.
