IRS Holds Tax Professional Awareness Week: Gearing Up for the 2027 Filing Season

The Internal Revenue Service announced on October 16 that its 2026 Tax Professional Awareness Week would be held during the week of October 19. The annual program gives the nation's tax preparers a concentrated set of tools and resources to get ready for the 2027 filing season and to review new rules and common risk areas ahead of time.
A centerpiece of the week is a webinar on October 21 titled "How Much Do You Know About Refundable Credits." The IRS is also rolling out a new video series walking preparers through Form 8867, the Paid Preparer's Due Diligence Checklist, along with guidance on the most common errors made on Schedule C, the form used to report sole-proprietor profit or loss.
The agency is highlighting resources from the Taxpayer Advocate Service and the Tax Pro Account, the online tool that lets practitioners manage client authorizations. Other topics for the week include preparer due diligence, identity-theft protection, cybersecurity, payments modernization, and new items such as the Automatic Exemption from Penalty, the Saver's Match retirement credit, and Trump Accounts.
IRS Chief Executive Officer Frank J. Bisignano said tax professionals help taxpayers comply with the tax laws and take advantage of the tax benefits they are entitled to, and that this year's Awareness Week is aimed at giving practitioners more of the resources they need to support their clients. The sessions and materials are available free on IRS.gov.
