Wyoming Quarterback Tyler Hughes Named Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week

LARAMIE — University of Wyoming quarterback Tyler Hughes was named the Old Trapper Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week on October 19, the university's athletics department announced. It marks back-to-back weeks that a Cowboy has earned a weekly Mountain West honor, after kicker Erik Sandvik took Special Teams Player of the Week honors the week before.
Hughes earned the award for his performance in Wyoming's 41-23 home win over Northern Illinois on Saturday, when he rushed for a career-high 183 yards and four touchdowns and completed 16 of 19 passes for 196 yards. His 183 rushing yards were the most by a Wyoming quarterback since Levi Williams rushed for 200 yards against Kent State in the 2021 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, and his four rushing touchdowns matched Williams' total in that game. It was also Wyoming's first 150-yard rushing game since Harrison Waylee ran for 191 yards against New Mexico on September 30, 2023, and ranks as the 14th-best rushing performance by a quarterback in Mountain West history.
Behind Hughes, the Wyoming offense posted season highs of 41 points and 510 total yards. Wyoming is 4-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play and hosts Air Force on Friday evening at War Memorial Stadium. (GSM, based on the University of Wyoming athletics release of October 19)
