Tuesday, October 20, 2026 · Nonprofit · GSM News

Lilly Endowment Inc. announced on October 20 in Taunton, Massachusetts, a $10 million capacity-building grant to Homes For Our Troops (HFOT), supporting the organization's work building specially adapted custom homes for severely injured post-9/11 veterans across the United States.

According to the announcement released via GlobeNewswire, the grant will strengthen HFOT's technology and operational infrastructure and expand its fundraising and storytelling capabilities, positioning the organization for sustainable growth. HFOT is one of several military- and veteran-serving organizations receiving capacity-building grants from Lilly Endowment in this round.

"We are deeply grateful to Lilly Endowment for this extraordinary investment in Homes For Our Troops," said HFOT President and CEO Tom Landwermeyer, a retired U.S. Army brigadier general. "This investment will help HFOT build on the strong foundation we have established and prepare for the future as we continue Building Homes and Rebuilding Lives for Veterans and their families nationwide." Ronni Kloth, Lilly Endowment's vice president for community development, said service members, veterans and their families often face challenges involving housing, childcare, food insecurity, health and employment, and that the foundation is pleased to support organizations providing crucial help.

Founded in 2004, HFOT is a publicly funded 501(c)(3) nonprofit that builds and donates specially adapted custom homes to veterans with injuries including multiple limb amputations, partial or full paralysis, blindness, severe burns and severe traumatic brain injury; since its inception, nearly 90 cents of every dollar spent has gone to its program services for veterans. Homes are built where the veteran chooses to live, and HFOT continues its relationship with veterans after home delivery. Lilly Endowment is a private foundation created in 1937 by J.K. Lilly Sr. and his sons through gifts of Eli Lilly and Company stock; based in Indianapolis, it is a separate entity from the company and supports community development, education and religion.
