Los Angeles: Housing Advocates to Wrap City Hall in 1,480-Foot Red Ribbon on Oct. 21 in Protest of Housing Delays

In Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California, housing advocates plan to wrap City Hall in red ribbon. Housing Is A Human Right, a division of AHF, announced on October 20 via Business Wire that more than 100 advocates will surround Los Angeles City Hall at 200 N. Spring Street with 1,480 feet of red ribbon, over a quarter of a mile, from noon to 1 p.m. on October 21, protesting years of city red tape delaying housing for homeless and low-income residents. The announcement said 94 units at the Barclay low-income housing project downtown have sat vacant for more than five years while awaiting a city electricity upgrade, that SRO Corporation is in trouble and that Skid Row Housing Trust has disbanded. Susie Shannon, the group's policy director, said that with as many as six people dying on Los Angeles streets every day, any delay in bringing permanent housing online is unconscionable. The announcement cited the 2026 point-in-time count showing more than 45,194 homeless individuals in the city, up 3.9%. The action is part of the National Coalition for the Homeless' second annual Housing NOW! National Day of Action. (GSM, based on the Business Wire announcement)
