Prior Convicted Orleans Parish Sex Offender Sentenced for Possession of Child Sex Abuse Materials

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana announced that David Morel, 43, of New Orleans, was sentenced on October 14, 2026, for possession of materials involving the sexual exploitation of minors, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 2252(a)(4)(B) and (a)(2). U.S. Attorney David I. Courcelle announced the sentence.
According to court documents, Morel was found in possession of images of pre-pubescent child pornography through October 20, 2025. His home was searched by state law enforcement officials and federal agents on that date, and Louisiana Bureau of Investigation agents arrested him during execution of the search warrant after finding electronic devices containing media depicting the sexual abuse of prepubescent children. Through a partnership between state and federal authorities, the U.S. Attorney's Office adopted the state charges.
Morel was previously convicted in federal court in 2016 for possessing materials involving the sexual exploitation of minors and was sentenced to 120 months in prison. U.S. District Judge Jay C. Zainey sentenced him to 10 years in prison followed by a lifetime term of supervised release. The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation, and prosecuted by Brian M. Klebba.
