Omaha Man Sentenced to 37 Months for Being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm

Tuesday, October 20, 2026 · States · GSM News

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Nebraska announced that Jamar Brown, 38, of Omaha, Nebraska, was sentenced on October 15, 2026, for being a felon in possession of a firearm. U.S. District Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr. sentenced Brown to 37 months in prison. There is no parole in the federal system, and after his release Brown will begin a three-year term of supervised release.

On March 25, 2026, an individual advised an Omaha police officer that they had just been in a disturbance with Brown and that he was in possession of a firearm. The officer then contacted Brown as he was walking in Omaha and became aware that Brown was in possession of a Smith & Wesson .40 caliber handgun, which was stolen. Because Brown was previously convicted in Douglas County, Nebraska, of Sexual Assault on a Child in the 3rd Degree in 2020 and of Attempted Sex Offender Registration Act Violation, he was a convicted felon and it was illegal for him to possess firearms.

U.S. Attorney Lesley A. Woods thanked the Omaha Police Department for taking the man off the streets, describing him as a particularly dangerous felon to be in possession of a firearm. The case was investigated by the Omaha Police Department.
