Shippensburg Police Detective Pleads Guilty to Possession of Child Pornography

Tuesday, October 20, 2026 · States · GSM News

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced on October 20 that Matthew S. Pleisse, 36, of Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, a detective with the Shippensburg Police Department, pleaded guilty yesterday before U.S. District Judge Robert D. Mariani to possession of child pornography involving a prepubescent minor.

According to U.S. Attorney Brian D. Miller, in April 2025 law enforcement executed a search warrant at Pleisse's residence and seized several electronic devices, including his personal computer and cell phone. Forensic analysis found that he utilized cryptocurrency to purchase child pornography from the dark web and possessed child pornography depicting prepubescent minors.

As part of his plea agreement, Pleisse will be required to resign from his position with the Shippensburg Police Department within 10 days and may not seek or accept a position of public trust as a condition of his supervised release. The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen W. Dukes, as part of Project Safe Childhood.

Pleisse faces a maximum sentence of 20 years' imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine. The judge will impose sentence after considering the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
