Illinois U.S. Senate Forum Tonight on WTTW: Stratton vs. Tracy for the Seat Durbin Is Retiring From

Wednesday, October 21, 2026 · States · GSM News

The two major-party candidates for Illinois' U.S. Senate seat — Democratic Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton and Republican former state party chairman Don Tracy — will face off tonight at 9 p.m.

Eastern (8 p.m. Central) in a forum on WTTW.

It is a rare head-to-head meeting between the two before the November 3 midterm election, for the seat being vacated by Dick Durbin, the Senate's No. 2 Democrat, who announced last year that he would not seek re-election, ending nearly three decades as a senator.

Early voting is already under way in Illinois. On the state of the race, a new ActiVote poll released October 20 — surveying 400 likely midterm voters from September 26 to October 20, with an average expected margin of error of 4.9 points — shows Stratton leading Tracy by 17 points.

Stratton leads among suburban and city voters, voters under 30 and over 50, women, white, Black and Latino voters, middle- and higher-income groups and every education level, while Tracy leads only among rural voters, voters aged 30 to 49, men and lower-income groups; among independents, Stratton wins 67% to 33%. The Cook Political Report rates the seat "Solid Democratic." Stratton's campaign says she will share a positive vision of "making life more affordable, creating economic opportunity, and defending rights and freedom"; Tracy says he "will not be anyone's rubber stamp," advocates election security measures such as voter ID, and says that while he does not seek President Trump's endorsement, he would not refuse it.

Independent candidate Whitfield Harrington Jr. is also on the ballot.
