Louisiana Department of Health Opens Round Three of HERO Fund Applications: Matching Grants to Expand the Health Care Workforce

The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) announced on October 20 that it is accepting applications for the third round of the Health Care Employment Reinvestment Opportunity (H.E.R.O.) Fund, with a deadline of 5 p.m. Central on November 19.
The fund uses matching grants to help expand Louisiana's health care workforce, funding partnerships between health care training and education programs and industry partners — state health care institutions such as hospitals and clinics — with a focus on nursing, allied health and other high-demand health care occupations. Funding can be used to expand enrollment and capacity in popular health care training programs, raise course completion rates and licensure exam pass rates, provide stipends or tuition relief to students entering the state's health care workforce, and encourage practitioners to work in underserved areas.
Albert Simeon Jr., a deputy secretary of the department, said: "Building a stronger health care workforce is essential to improving health care access across the state. The HERO Fund brings educational institutions and health care providers together to create more opportunities for Louisianans to train for high-demand careers." The program is a confirmed announcement from the state government, aimed at easing staffing shortages at health care facilities statewide and keeping talent in Louisiana.
