Early voting is under way in Minnesota. According to Minnesota News Network reporting on October 20, today (Tuesday) is the state's recommended deadline to apply for a mail absentee ballot, to allow time for processing and return; voters can also vote early in person, through November 2, the day before Election Day.

In this election, Minnesota voters will decide several key offices, including U.S. senator, governor and members of Congress, along with other state and local offices.

The same day, Republican gubernatorial candidate Lisa Demuth unveiled a "whistleblower protection plan," saying at a press conference that she would, by executive order, authorize state employees to report fraud directly to the legislative auditor or an inspector general without asking permission, that reports could not be altered, and that whistleblowers' identities would be protected; the plan would also place a whistleblower coordinator in every state agency. Democratic U.S.

Senator Amy Klobuchar also released an anti-fraud plan in May that included whistleblower protections. Fighting government fraud has become a major issue in Minnesota's governor's race.
