As first reported by the Associated Press, Senate Majority PAC, the Senate Democrats' top campaign spending arm, plans to begin airing $1.2 million in television advertising on Wednesday in deep-red Mississippi in support of Democratic Senate nominee Scott Colom, with the ads running through Election Day. A spokesperson for the PAC, Lauren French, said Colom is running a campaign that is "clearly competitive and has put Hyde-Smith on her heels." In polling, a Wedgwood Polls survey shows Colom trailing Republican incumbent Sen.

Cindy Hyde-Smith 48% to 52%, while other polls also show Hyde-Smith leading by single digits. Mississippi last elected a Democratic U.S.

senator in November 1982, and both of its Senate seats have been held by Republicans since 1989; President Trump won 60.9% of the vote in the state in the 2024 presidential election. About $8 million has been spent on the Senate race so far, with Colom spending nearly $4.6 million and Hyde-Smith about $3.2 million.

Colom, the district attorney for Mississippi's 16th Judicial District, campaigned alongside Georgia Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock and is scheduled to rally with former Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday; his campaign is centered on affordability.
