Giant Supermarket Website and App Back Online After Cybersecurity Incident; 10% Discount Continues

Wednesday, October 21, 2026 · States · GSM News

Giant, the supermarket chain headquartered in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, announced on October 20 that its website and mobile app had been restored as of 9 a.m. that day.

The company had taken its brands' websites and apps offline for several days as a precaution after detecting suspicious activity in its IT infrastructure and confirming it was malicious. Giant operates 168 stores in Pennsylvania.

Company spokesperson Ashley Flower said in an email: "We appreciate our customers' patience and understanding over the past several days while we were offline, and we apologize for any inconvenience." Parent company Ahold Delhaize reported on October 19 that it had notified the Dutch National Cyber Security Centre within 24 hours of discovering the malicious activity and has filed a formal police report with Dutch police, while continuing to update relevant regulators on the investigation. The company said there is currently no evidence that any sensitive customer, employee or partner data was taken.

The investigation is ongoing. As compensation, the 10% grocery discount Giant previously offered remains in effect.
