Pelino Says She Will File an Election Board Complaint: Accuses Guckian of Failing to Disclose Private Jet Costs

Wednesday, October 21, 2026 · States · GSM News

Elaine Pelino, who lost last month's Republican gubernatorial primary to Allan Guckian, said on October 20 that she will file a campaign finance complaint with Rhode Island election officials asking them to review whether Guckian's campaign properly disclosed the cost of private jet travel. In a social media post, Pelino alleged that the campaign did not list the expense in its filings despite having had ample time to update them, and that she believes the omission was deliberate and violates campaign finance law.

The dispute involves a fundraising trip to Florida in late September at which Eric Trump and Lara Trump were expected to appear. Guckian's campaign acknowledged that part of the trip used a private plane but said it has not yet received the bill from the transportation provider, has asked for an invoice, and will amend its filing once the invoice is received and paid.

The campaign also said the candidate was focused on the debate being held on the evening of October 20. The state Board of Elections has not announced any investigative conclusion.

Pelino also raised concerns for donors, saying contributors — including older Republicans living on fixed incomes — may not realize their donations could ultimately be used to pay for the travel.
