Loveland Woman Sentenced for Nearly $250,000 in Social Security and Housing Fraud

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Colorado announced that Antoinette Vazquez Cobain, 67, of Loveland, Colorado, was sentenced on October 20 to six months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release, plus $33,159.48 in restitution to the Social Security Administration and $214,144.00 in restitution to the Loveland Housing Authority, after pleading guilty to one count of wire fraud.
According to the plea agreement and facts established at sentencing, from about December 2007 until August 2024, Vazquez Cobain wrongfully obtained payments from both the Social Security Administration and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program via the Loveland Housing Authority. She used one Social Security number to obtain benefits and a second Social Security number to work and conceal assets.
U.S. Attorney for the District of Colorado Peter McNeilly said abusing government programs for personal gain is a serious crime that reduces resources meant for people who really need them. HUD Office of Inspector General Special Agent in Charge Machelle Jindra said the scheme, totaling almost $250,000, was a calculated and sustained effort over many years. The case was investigated by the Social Security Administration and HUD Offices of Inspector General. U.S. District Judge Nina Y. Wang presided over the sentencing.
